The first couple of hours….

It was so comforting being able to hold my daugther in my arms again after 7 months but it made me forget where I was and how long I had travelled to arrive in Stephenville. Like Toronto, I rented an Airbnb with the difference that this place was for me alone.

10 minutes before Fleur arrived I pulled into the street and recognized the house from the pictures. The key was with a key-lock system accessable with a code that was provided via the Airbnb app so that I was able to check-in without any people present. The house is a two bedroom fully equiped Airbnb and has everything I need to make myself comfortable.

Fleur also wanted me to meet her host family and we immidiatley went over to get aqcuinted. It’s a two minute drive from my Airbnb and we pulled up in the street of what I experience as typical Canadian Cottages and parked my car on the driveway of the family. The family was already coming out of their home to meet me on the porch. I got a really warm welcome and we took at seat at the kitchen table with a cop of coffee. I obviously took the Stroopwafels out and handed them over as a small token of my appreciation. I instantly was their best friend 😉

After an hour or so me and Fleur decided to have some dinner together with one of her friends (Braydon). Fleur and the daughter-in-law of the host family (Dereka) did their best to search a nice restaurant in another town which was an hour away. The restaurant however was a disaster. My burger was overcooked, Braydon his Fisch and Chips had a funny taste (read: disgusting) and Fleur her steak was also overcooked. So we paid the bill and drove back to Stephenvill where Fleur and Braydon went out to see some friends and I was able to setlle down in my Airbnb and process the various experiences from my first day in Stephenville.
